No one is ever just ready to take on a writing job. There’s always some sort of dread in making book reports, captions, and emails. It can sometimes become a chore and we understand your struggle. Here are some tips on how to keep that content rolling.
Let your audience serve as your inspiration
It’s easy to get lost in SEO strategies, keyword research, and just going with all the latest trends that sometimes it distorts the message to the audience. These types of content often forget who it’s actually for. There is certain content that customers really want to read and sometimes we don’t give it to them. This doesn’t mean you have to change what you’re doing to your content currently, it just means that it doesn’t hurt to ensure that your content is meaningful and engaging to your audience. Afterall, who are you making your content for anyway? With social media, you can get valuable feedback and customer insight in real time.
You can ask your audience directly. Thanks to social media you can easily do so. Ask them what they want to see from your brand. This feedback could potentially be the answer to more engagement from them and more content to put out.
Emails are also one way of getting questions out to your audience. Most of us, if not everyone, check our emails several times a day. You should take advantage of this fact and send out surveys that will yield responses from your audience. This will get you more feedback to work on. In return, you can always offer something like a discount so they’re looking forward to more from you.
Keep writing!
While getting writer’s block is one of the most frustrating things you will experience as a writer, it doesn’t have to stop you from pushing yourself. Sure, there are other ways to cope or even get over writer’s block. Some include relaxation, taking a break, or even doing something completely different. One solution that a lot of us shy away from is actually pushing through even with writer’s block.
There is no right way to do it and what works for you will always be the best solution for it but if it helps, we’ve listed down some ideas on how to keep that creative juice flowing.
- Keep a creative journal
You can put all the random thoughts and ideas that pop into your mind within the day. Try to keep it with you at all times so when the need arises, you can just whip out your notebook and write it down. Plus, it’s also helpful if you’ve suddenly lost track of your writing and are looking for a way to bring it back to topic.
- Make time
This is difficult. It might be tiring and thinking about it, it sounds tedious but it’s sworn by a lot of writers. Writing everyday doesn’t have to mean sitting down and wringing out every ounce of creativity you have for 4-6 hours. You can do so in 5-10 minutes; 15 if you’re feeling up to it. It doesn’t matter what you write as long as you are. Let the words come and flow. You might end up with something you could include in your piece.
- Read
You might have heard this countless times before but reading is so beneficial for you especially if you’re a writer. You can learn a great deal from other writers, you can even learn new words, learn how to better deliver your message, and many more. Reading will help you get on your way with your writing faster.
- Change in scenery
It might be a good idea to go out of your way and change your scenery. Staying cooped up in your room may pose difficulties when you’re writing. ALthough it may be a little hard to have a change in scenery because of the pandemic, changing your workstation might help. You can try cleaning, rearranging, or transferring locations.
- Crank up the volume
Nothing beats a good music session. We all have that song/s that pump us up that it just keeps you going for hours on end. You can even try making a writing playlist.
Have fun with it
We’ve talked about this and it’s important that you take note. Do not pressure yourself into writing something you don’t feel connected to. Take it easy and have fun with it! Your readers will notice if it was forced. It’s in the way you sound to them as they read it. Making that connection with your audience is an important part of the writing process and will be greatly appreciated by them.
Don’t just speak to your audience, communicate and converse with them through your content. Create something that’s going to get their mind going and their interest piqued. Try starting a dialogue.
Remember why you’re doing what you do
Why are you writing this? What do you want to get out of it? Do you want more readers? Do you want your readers to learn something new? Always keep in mind the reason for your writing and go towards that goal!
