Okay so, this is the truth. You spend more time with your co-workers than you do with anyone else. Don’t believe me? Try computing it. 9 hours a day of work for 5 days a week. That’s almost as much time you spend sleeping which is for around 8 hours, and a total of 2 hours to eat breakfast and dinner combined.
Obviously, you’d want to keep things a little more decent. Harmonious workplace relationships can make going to work a blast so make sure you get those on point. Here are a few tips to learn how to get along with your coworkers.
RESPECT
You don’t have to be friends with everyone but you must, however, demonstrate for one another. There are a lot of ways to exhibit respect for each other, one of which is cleaning up after yourself, not doing anything offensive, don’t take anyone else’s food, keep your workstation clean , try not to be annoying, don’t take credit for something you didn’t do, and many more.
DRAW CLEAR LINES
Some people are lucky to call their workmates their friends but some of us aren’t so lucky. Make sure to be wary of being too comfortable that you think no topic is off limits. Some topics can cause awkwardness, and should therefore be avoided.
FIND WAYS TO KEEP YOUR RELATIONSHIP GOOD
Jobs are very stressful in nature but it’ll be such a good thing to establish a good rapport with your workmates because they’re the ones with you the most after all. Strong bonds take time and effort so be friendly and try to get along with everyone. Don’t know how to? Try inviting them for lunch.
GOOD ETIQUETTE
Manners are needed on the job and practically, everywhere. Remember to always be nice and polite to everyone. Don’t distract anyone from their work and try to keep your “inside voice” at all times especially when talking to coworkers.
BE KIND
The simplest way to keep your relationship with your coworkers smooth is by being kind. You’d be surprised how people overlook this simple task. Don’t go around spreading rumors of poking your nose into someone else’s business. Set boundaries and be careful not to step over it.
